VHS

The most commonly used for home video format during the 1980s and 1990s. VHS cassette tapes are used with VCRs. DVDs have replaced VHS cassette tapes to become the standard home video format in the early 2000s. VHS is an analog format that records on magnetic tape. VHS tapes deteriorate over time especially if the tape is rewound and played often. DVDs are recorded digitally, so they have a much longer shelf life (they virtually last forever) and users can play DVDs as often as they wish without worrying about reductions in quality.
